Salt Water Rinses For Healthier Oral Hygiene

There’s a reason why dentists recommend salt water rinses (1/2 tsp. of salt to a cup of warm water) three to four times a week. In addition to creating an isotonic environment in the mouth making it difficult for bacteria to survive, salt water rinses can also be very beneficial in healing gums inflamed by gingivitis. To use a salt water rinse, sip on a bit of the liquid, only taking as much as you can comfortably hold in your mouth without feeling the need to spit. Swish it around your mouth, ensuring you get around your gums, for at least 30 seconds, and then spit it into the sink.
